Anchorage: Bigger, Better, Lusher Gardens – organic growing through soil science workshop will be held March 28 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Anchorage Cooperative Extension Service, 1675 C Street, Suite 100.
Learn how to manage your gardens the organic way. Local experts and Cooperative Extension have teamed up to offer a soil science intensive geared to Anchorage gardeners. Soil biology, texture, structure and composting as well as the secret life of roots will be covered. Learn through hands-on activities the science behind feeding your soil, not your plant!

During the month of March the Loussac Library will be showing the story behind the story double features. This Saturday at noon watch a documentary about author P.L. Travers as she reflects on her childhood after reluctantly meeting with Walt Disney, who seeks to adapt her “Mary Poppins” books for the big screen.
Then stay for the 2:30 p.m. showing of the Disney classic!

Check out the 2015 Anchorage CANstruction all day Saturday, March 7 at the University Center. This year’s theme is “Under the Sea.”
Teams design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food. At the end of the event all the food is donated to the Food Bank of Alaska.
Last year they used 37,000 pounds of food to design their sculptures!
Come and vote on your favorite by donating a can of food.

Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco. The next Kick Butts Day is March 18 and you can participate!
Stand up to Big Tobacco and declare that you are #NotAReplacement. Personalize a “Not A Replacement Selfie Statement” with a description of who you are and what you represent. For example, “I am Not A Replacement, I AM an artist.”
Take a picture of yourself holding your selfie and share it on social media.
