Identity, Inc. is excited to announce the formation of their first Teen Trans group. Transvolution will be a casual, weekly meeting group that provides support and peer interaction for teens ages 14-19. Anyone who identifies as transgender, genderqueer, genderless, etc. are welcome to attend. This is also a safe and welcoming space for teens who are questioning their gender identity.

Play Dungeons and Dragons at Bosco’s Comics Cards & Games every Thursday at 6 p.m. As you defeat enemies, solve puzzles, finish quests, and perform heroic deeds, you’ll earn Renown Points that you can use to get exclusive rewards. Each session only takes 1-2 hours to play, so it’s easy to fit your game in after school or work. And each week there’s a new and exciting challenge. Jump in anytime! All you need is dice. Hey, teens! Are you interested in making videos? The experts from Alaska Teen Media Institute are on hand to explain the basics and help with shooting and editing. No prior experience is needed. Drop by and learn more. Participation is limited to ages 12-18.

Have a knack for flower arranging? Join Green Connection Thursday, August 7 at 10 a.m. for Ugly Silk Plant Day! They have a large inventory of old and ugly silk flowers that need to be transformed. Come make a silk flower arrangement out of old inventory. You get to keep your creation and prizes will be given for the best designs. They will also offer mini-classes and instruction on silk flower arranging and the many uses of artificial plants.

This event is FREE to the public, and all silk plants and materials are also free when used during the event.

Learn how to draw fashion designs sharply and quickly Friday, August 8 at noon at the Loussac Library. The instructor will demonstrate methods using pencil, wash, and charcoal. Participants will discuss fashion throughout history and how society has influenced how we dress, in the work-place and socially.

Film contest!

Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center is looking for short films for their “Cabin Fever” exhibition this winter, which examines the emotions and behaviors that manifest after hours of darkness and isolation.

Films must enhance the exhibition theme. Humorous, dark and weird films are especially welcome.

Entries must be 5 minutes or less. Entries selected by the curator will be on view for the duration of the exhibition. Winning filmmakers receive a $200 stipend. For more information visit http://bit.ly/AKCabinFever
