Anchorage Public Library has been celebrating frugal fashion all month long and now they’re ready to show off.

Come to the Wilda Marston Theatre for their Frugal Fashion Show Thursday, August 28 at 7 p.m. as local fashionistas show off their professional clothing for job interviews and officewear.

All clothing shown in the show will be sourced from local thrift shops, charities and personal closets — it’s going to be fabulous frugulous fun!

Scholarship! The Gates Millennium Scholars Program selects 1,000 talented students each year to receive a scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest.

The deadline is January 14, 2015.

What do you think a helicopter of the future would look like?

Enter the 4th Annual Helicopter 2050 Challenge and you could win $1000 and a trip to the Sikorsky technologies headquarters in Stratford, CT to attend the award presentation and tour the facility.

The challenge is open to youth 16 and under.

Unigo.com is asking teens 14 and up, “Which five words illustrate what your life will be like 10 years after college graduation?”

Applying is simple! Register or Login to Unigo to get the scholarship application. Tell them your five simple words. Then explain your answer in 200 words or less. Four $10,000 winners will be selected. Creativity is encouraged!

Join Alaska Botanical Garden for Harvest Day Saturday, September 6. Enter the scarecrow contest, learn from the live cooking demonstrations and enjoy food, crafts, games and more! Admission is $7 but if you bring a food donation it’s only $5.

Calling all nerdy girls! Do you love technology and computer science? Apply for the 2015 ProjectCSGIRLS Outreach Team. ProjectCSGIRLS is a competition designed to challenge middle school girls to actively use computer science and technology to develop a solution to an imminent social problem.

The outreach team promotes participation in ProjectCSGIRLS to middle school girls in your area, communicates with possible sponsors/partners, and does publicity work for ProjectCSGIRLS.

Meet voice actor Neil Kaplan Saturday, August 23 at Bosco’s Comics Cards & Games at 11 a.m. He is the voice for hundreds of characters on shows such as Digimon, Power Rangers and currently Naruto. Video game fans know him from Starcraft, Skylanders, Bioshock Infinite, World of Warcraft and more.
