If you are helping stop hunger in your community, you could be eligible for a $5,000 scholarship from the Sodexo Foundation.

The Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarships recognize students who have made a significant impact in the fight against hunger in communities across the United States. The scholarship recipients each receive $5,000 for their education as well as a matching grant in their name for the hunger-related charity of their choice.

These awards are open to students age 5-25 who have demonstrated ongoing commitment to their community by helping fight hunger in the last 12 months.

Join experienced REI winter camping experts Wednesday, October 29 at 6 p.m. to learn what you need and what to expect when camping in a winter wonderland. They will cover how to plan, how to stay warm, how to select winter appropriate gear and what to expect when setting up camp and during your overnight. Winter camping is a new experience that is a must-do that keeps you outside all year long!

This workshop is FREE and open to the public!

RurAL CAP is looking for AmeriCorps members for one-year, full-time positions to start in January, 2015.

Members will receive at $1,200 monthly living allowance and a $5,550 education award. They’ll also receive valuable work experience, leadership skills and health insurance benefits.

Head to Teen Underground the last Friday of the month for a free movie. This month it happens to be Halloween, so they’ll be showing classics starring one of the most famous and frightful characters of all time! That’s at the Loussac Library from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

Come to the opening reception for the annual No Big Heads juried self-portrait competition at the UAA Student Union Gallery Thursday, October 23 from 4-6 p.m.

This year’s juror is Jesse Shaw. Shaw is a printmaker from Tennessee primarily working in relief prints carved from linoleum blocks.

UAA is having a Headphone Disco, Thursday, October 23 at the Student Union from 7-9 p.m.

Participate or watch as the crowd chooses their DJ with the flick of a switch on their headphones, then gets down to two completely different styles of music at exactly the same time and to a soundtrack only they can hear.

Free for UAA students and $5 for the general public.
