Anchorage Skates and The Alaska Speedskating club are hosting a winter solstice skating party, Friday, December 20 at the Cuddy Family Midtown Park skating oval.
Enjoy music and a bonfire from 6-8 p.m.. Girl Scouts of Alaska CEO Sue Perles, who was a nationally ranked speed skater, will be on hand to offer ice-skating tips.

Want to learn how to wax your cross-country skis? Head to Service High School Saturday, Nov. 23 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for free ski waxing, demonstrations and chili! Have your skis waxed by a Service High Ski team member or coach and listen at 1 p.m. to a half-hour talk on how to properly wax your classic and skate skis. Donations gladly accepted and benefit the Service High ski team.
Are you looking for a fun winter sport? Join the experienced REI staff for a FREE class on the basics of snowshoeing, tonight (Thursday) at 6 p.m. They will focus on the appropriate selection of gear as well as the basics on what you need and where to go to get started. If you ever thought about getting into snowshoeing, this is a great introduction to the sport!
Have fun learning to shoot target archery for free! Anchorage Parks and Recreation will be giving archery lessons every Saturday in November from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Kincaid Park Annex Bunker. Youth/adult instruction with emphasis on safety first. Open to anyone who is interested in learning to shoot a bow. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Want to see if hockey is the sport for you? Head to Ben Boeke Indoor Ice Arena Saturday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m. and experience what it’s like on the ice. Certified coaches will be on hand to teach you the basics of hockey. This event is FREE and all equipment is provided.
