Que Pasa? – Anchorage

Join Nic and Vanessa Sweet for a free figure drawing workshop Saturday, January 24 at 8 p.m. at the Loussac Library. This is a workshop geared toward adults and teens. All participants must bring their own supplies.

Nic and Vee Sweet are both graduates of the California Institute of the Arts for Animation. Currently they run Sleeping Fox Studios. For more information please contact Darla at hanedc@muni.org.

Come give Irish folk dancing a try January 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Loussac Library. These dances are like a lively version of square and contra dancing. No partner or experience needed. All ages welcome. Free and open to the public!

DJs Austin Hummel and Chester Chomp are playing at the Royal Academy of Dance’s Aurora Dance Friday January 23 from 7-10 p.m. Become part of the art by bouncing to the sound under an amazing canopy of special effects lighting. Royal Academy of Dance – 8225 Old Seward Highway (next to Pink Elephant Car Wash near Dimond). Cover is $5.

Writing contest! Since 1981 writers of every age from every part of Alaska have participated in the annual UAA/Alaska Dispatch Creative Writing Contest. For several past winners, this contest was the first public recognition of their work and helped launch successful writing careers.

It’s Oscar season! In celebration of the film industry’s most prestigious award, Loussac Library is celebrating by showing past Best Picture winners.

From noon to 5 p.m. they’ll show two best picture winners – one for each decade the category existed.

Come enjoy the show and drop off your ballot for the 2015 Academy Awards.
