The Loussac Library is hosting a Drive-In Movie in the parking lot Saturday, Dec. 6 from 7-8:30 p.m. Park facing west (toward Barrow Street) and tune your radios to KONR 106.1 for the sound. Featured is a series of children’s film shorts, selected by the Anchorage International Film Festival.

When the movies are over, watch the premiere of a light show choreographed to music. Free coffee and hot chocolate are being provided by Friends of the Library and there will be Boy Scout popcorn and hot dogs for sale. Dive In! Discover! @ your library.

Join Great Land Trust for a festive and free community celebration at the Anchorage Museum Atrium Thursday, December 11.

Celebrate their recent successes including conserving over 1,000 acres of important salmon and wildlife habitat used for local subsistence fishing and hunting; award local conservation heroes; and help raise funds to buy the top of Bodenburg Butte for permanent public access!

There will be appetizers, beverages, live music, photobooth, activities and great company!

Running Strong is giving away fifty $10,000 grants over the next five years to jump start the dreams of American Indian youth.

The grants will be awarded to teams of Native youth and nonprofit mentor organizations who will work together on a project inspired by the young person’s dream, as well as leadership training, a $500 award to the youth participant, and the chance to compete for five $50,000 grants at the end of the process.

Apply by January 5, 2014!

Don’t miss the first-ever Education First Celebrity Basketball Game Saturday, December 6 at Begich Middle School. Players from Ball Up Streetball will be playing the Anchorage Allstars. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the game starts at 5.

Tickets are $20. A portion of the proceeds will go to Boys and Girls Club.

UAA Planetarium is hosting a launch party for the Orion Spacecraft December 4 from 5:30-8 p.m. NASA’s new spacecraft is built to send humans farther than ever before.

A viewing of the launch will begin the event. As the capsule is orbiting around the planet, there will be hands-on activities, giveaways and a live Skype Q&A period with one of the engineers, Nick Wellner, straight from NASA Johnson Space Center!

The event will end with a viewing of the splashdown of Orion in the Pacific Ocean and the retrieval of the capsule by the US Navy ship, the SS Anchorage.
