The Light Brigade is looking for volunteers for next week. Fun tasks and roles are available to help the “Follow The Light” installation debuting in Elderberry Park on the Solstice. Helpers can head to the Church of Love 3502 Spenard Road 4-10pm today, and from 12-10pm Sat and Sun, or call Bruce Farnsworth at 227-7546.

Loussac Library is hosting a spoken word slam December 11 from 6-8 p.m. and a workshop December 13 from 2-3:30 p.m. Come learn to use words as beats, cadence and melody with no band necessary. If you love comedy, poetry, acting, or profound thought, spoken word is for YOU! BE HEARD!

All are invited to participate in Tuba Christmas 2014, Sunday, December 14 at 2 p.m. at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts Lorene Harrison Lobby. If you would like to play with the band, registration starts at noon. All skill levels are welcome! Free tuba tunes!

Alaska Military Youth Academy ~ AMYA is accepting applicants. To qualify you must be between the ages of 16 and 18. You must be in need of your high school education; either not enrolled in high school or a GED program or at risk of not graduating with your peers. If you have your GED or HS diploma you are not eligible.

You must attend an orientation session to apply. The next orientation will be held at the Loussac Library December 15 at 6 p.m.

In celebration of Anchorage’s 100th birthday, all Anchorage School District students are invited to submit up to two poems to the Anchorage Centennial Celebration poetry contest.

The winning poems will be published on the Anchorage Centennial Celebration’s website.
