Celebrate Dia de Muertos, Day of The Dead, Saturday, November 2 at the Northway Mall from 4-7 p.m. Enjoy festivities and performances of spoken word, dance and music. Free chocolate and Mexican bread! There will also be space for a community altar for anyone who wants to
contribute an offering for his or her loved ones.

College & Career Fair

 

Don’t miss the 32nd Annual Anchorage College and Career Fair Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1-5 p.m. at the Egan Center.

More 100 colleges, universities, and technical institutions will be present to provide information on post-secondary admissions. Workshops will be available featuring topics such as financial aid, scholarships, and college admissions. The College & Career Fair is your opportunity to “window shop” for a college or university.

Archaeology Day at the University Center

 

Head to the University Center Saturday, Oct. 19, for Archaeology Day from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. You can try to shoot a model bison using a spear throwing board (atlatl), learn about the human skeleton, find artifacts in a mock dig, make stone artwork or petroglyphs, learn how old a cabin is from its logs, how to make a basket, about animal bones from archaeological sites, and how to make a stone knife or arrowhead. An archaeologist will be there to identify artifacts, and there will be movies and displays about archaeology in Alaska.

This event is FREE and open to the public.

Movie Stunts and Effects Revealed!

 

Ever wonder how movie magic is made? Stunt Scientist Steve Wolf reveals the secret science behind movie stunts and effects Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. at the East High School Auditorium. This is a FREE community presentation in conjunction with the Alaska Math and Science Teachers Conference.

5th Annual Icky, Squishy & Gooey Party

 

Wear your favorite Halloween costume and head to the Alaska Museum of Science and Nature Friday, Oct. 18 for their 5th annual Icky, Squishy & Gooey Party. From 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. enjoy truly slimy experiments, bubbling potions, gooey facts, and mad scientists! Admission is $5.

Free Museum Day this Sunday

 

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Well’s Fargo will pay for your admission at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center all day Sunday, Oct. 13.

Celebrate Anchorage’s Hispanic cultures with live music by Mariachi Agave Azul, a dance performance by Xochiquetzal-Tiqun and more. Create a colorful Central American friendship bracelet, practice Spanish by identifying Hispanic-influenced cowboy equipment, and play Latin American geography trivia.

Spenard Builder Supply is kicking off another season of Bon Appetit Gourmet Chef Demos this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Chef de Cuisine Travis Haugen of Southside Bistro will demonstrate how to make a cauliflower & chevre soup. Taste the dish, take home the recipe, ask the chef questions and enter to win door prizes. This event is FREE and open to the public.
