All Anchorage-area teens (ages 12-18) are invited to join Alaska Teen Media Institute to produce great films! Pick up a camera and create your own movies every Tuesday at the Loussac Library at 3:30 p.m. Work on your own projects, projects that benefit the library, and/or collaborate with other teens.

Are you destined to be a 2014 youth delegate? An adult trainer? Alaska Youth for Environmental Action’s Civics and Conservation Summit applications are now open!

The summit brings 20 youth leaders to Juneau for a week of high-impact, fun, and adrenaline-pumping civic engagement lessons, March 17-21.

During this event, youth will learn how to talk with the media, how to communicate with elected officials, how to read a bill, and how to impact decisions our leaders make about our environment and our lives. There will be sessions on the tribal resolution process, environmental justice, and defining sources of power and influence.

Coastal America and the Aquarium of the Pacific invite you to participate in the biennial 2013-2014 North American Ocean Art Contest.

Alaska SeaLife Center is a one of the 25 members of the Coastal America Learning Center network and will be accepting two-dimensional art that reflects one of the seven essential principles of ocean literacy.

Submit your artwork to the Education Department at the Alaska SeaLife Center: 301 Railway Avenue P.O. Box 1329 Seward, AK 99664. The deadline to submit is Dec. 16!

Winners will receive one free distance learning program for their class and passes to the SeaLife Center. Their art will also be on display at the Center.

Free Comic Drawing Class @ TU

 

Teen Underground and the Anchorage Museum are offering a FREE comics and illustration studio, Saturday, Dec. 7 from 2-4 p.m. at the Loussac Library.

Learn how to breathe life into your sketches and tell stories with your drawings. This workshop covers how to begin, gather references, lay out pages and create perspective. Teens should bring their own sketchbooks and personal projects to work on.

“Nanocam” at the UAA Planetarium

 

Head to the UAA Planetarium Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:30 and experience the show that shrinks you down to the size of an insect and flies you through the eye of a needle!

“Nanocam: A Trip Into Biodiversity” is a microscopic joyride into the five kingdoms of life. With the latest 3D animation technology and based on real electron microscope imagery, this show offers a unique, motivating, didactic and funny approach to biology that has never been seen like this before.
