Coastal America and the Aquarium of the Pacific invite you to participate in the biennial 2013-2014 North American Ocean Art Contest.

Alaska SeaLife Center is a one of the 25 members of the Coastal America Learning Center network and will be accepting two-dimensional art that reflects one of the seven essential principles of ocean literacy.

Submit your artwork to the Education Department at the Alaska SeaLife Center: 301 Railway Avenue P.O. Box 1329 Seward, AK 99664. The deadline to submit is Dec. 16!

Winners will receive one free distance learning program for their class and passes to the SeaLife Center. Their art will also be on display at the Center.

Submit your film to NFFTY

 

National Film Festival for Talented Youth is  the largest and most influential youth film festival in the world. NFFTY occurs each spring in Seattle and is the premier showcase of the best young directors 22 and younger from around the world. The films of NFFTY represent the voice of this generation, covering all topics and genres, from compelling and provocative, to hilarious and uplifting.

Submit your film to NFFTY and you could be eligible for a $5,000 grant and thousands of dollars to fund future film projects.

CSPAN’s StudentCam Competition

Are you interested in film making? Enter the CSPAN StudentCam Competition and be eligible for scholarships and video equipment!
StudentCam is an annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation, sponsored by C-SPAN.
StudentCam’s theme for 2014 is:  “A Message to the U.S. Congress: What’s the most important issue the U.S. Congress should consider in 2014?” Maximum award: $5,000, plus $750 to spend on digital video equipment for his/her school. Eligibility: students grades 6-12, individually or in teams

Celebrate Public Lands Every Day!

Enter your photo in the Faces & Places Photo Contest – this year’s contest celebrates the faces and places we see on our public lands. Enter the Alaska Statewide Youth Art & Writing Competition

 

Are you a young Alaska artist or writer? Submit your work to the Alaska Statewide Youth Art & Writing Competition!

The ASYAWC is a great opportunity for youth to express themselves without censorship, experience what their peers around the state are doing and give communities the opportunity to rally around youth and art.

Finalists will have their work curated in a gallery or published in F Magazine. Youth Free Expression Film Contest

Submit your short film to the annual Youth Free Expression Film Contest and you could win a cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to New York City to take classes at the New York Film Academy. This year’s topic is “Video Games in the Crosshairs.” Create a short film about gaming, media violence and the threat of censorship.  You must be 19 or younger and the film must be under four minutes. Name that Pterosaur!

 

The Alaska Museum of Science and Nature needs your help naming their new 800-pound pterosaur replica.

Submit your name, contact info and a short paragraph about the name you selected and why you think it’s the best. If your name is selected it will be on display with the pterosaur model and you’ll receive a prize!

Submit in person at the museum or you can e-mail bev@alaskamuseum.org. You are welcome to include an illustration too.

Design a poster for the Governor’s Office and enter to win an ice cream party for your class.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness and Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness months, all Alaska youth are invited to engage in creating a positive message about respect and healthy relationships.

The poster theme is “Respect: Lead the Way.” The deadline is December 13th.
