Celebrate Shakespeare’s 450th birthday this Saturday, April 26, at the Loussac library as UAA professor Toby Widdicombe presents Shakespeare’s sonnets. There will also be a Shakespearian insult contest and a special reading by Queen Elizabeth I. All are welcome from 2-4 p.m. in the Ann Stevens Room. Cosplay is encouraged!

Join Brave New Alaskan Voices for “Finals Night” at the Sydney Lawrence Theater April 30 at 7 p.m. Ten poets will compete for the chance to go to the International Spoken Word Festival. This event is free and open to the public.

Spend an afternoon with Tundra cartoonist Chad Carpenter, Saturday April 19 at the Loussac Library at 2 p.m. He will present a slideshow on cartooning and a glimpse into Chad and Darin Carpenter’s live-action, comedy/suspense, feature-length film, Moose the Movie. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Join the Anchorage Public Library for a Shakespearean double feature at the Loussac Library. Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m., a classic Shakespeare drama will be shown and at 3:15 the modern telling will follow. We can’t say the titles, but one of them takes place in Venice! This event is FREE and open to the public.

Free concert! East High School’s Swing Choir’s end-of-the-year concert is Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at the East High Auditorium. Come hear some of Anchorage’s most outstanding high school vocalists, including 2013 American Idol Top 10 Women’s Finalist, Adriana Latonio. Admission is FREE but donations are gladly accepted.
