It’s First Friday time! This month we recommend checking out Christina Wilson’s “Iconic Anchorage Buildings” gallery at ALASKA CAKE STUDIO August 1 from 6-9 p.m. Enjoy your favorite dessert while looking at vibrant & colorful paintings that capture Anchorage’s unique architectural style.

All ages concert at Anchorage Community Works Friday, July 25! Thunderfish, The Harlequin State, PJ Franco and The Burn-Outs and Dr. Zen. Doors open at 8 p.m., show starts at 9. Tickets are $10.

They are having a Second Friday gallery event July 11 from 5-9 p.m. featuring local Alaska illustrators/ artists Lee Post and Lucas Elliott.

Lee Post’s show “Never Play Fair” is an irreverent tour of Anchorage’s greatest neighborhoods. Lucas Elliott shows his character and Alaskan illustrations. Enjoy gourmet cupcake creations, meet the artists and browse the shop.

Anchorage City Limits Lofts – Lofts Hotel hosts an open mic night every Thursday from 7-11 p.m. Sign up to perform on their Facebook page or just show up. Each musician can perform up to three songs and your performance will be recorded.

Get your hands dirty and create a small, artful planter with a plastic bottle at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center Saturday, June 28, from 2-4 p.m. Participants also can add to the museum’s garden installation. Dirt and a limited quantity of plants provided. Bring your own plastic bottle to reuse. This event is held in conjunction with the exhibition “Gyre: The Plastic Ocean.”

Join A.L.A. at their CD release party Friday, June 27 at the Alaska Experience Theatre. Hope Cassidy and Adam Stewart bring their Americana Country music straight from Nashville. Tickets are just $10 for this all ages show. Show starts at 9 p.m.

Calling all musicians! Join the Red, White and Blue Crew and 10 members of the University of Washington Husky Marching Band in Anchorage’s Fourth of July celebration on the Park Strip. Musicians age 12 and up are needed.

Free music available at the Music Man and Horn Doctor. Three rehearsals at the South High School band room, 7-9 p.m. July 1-3.
