Share your mini art! The UAA Student Union Gallery is hosting an art trading card wall through September 24th. Design your own trading cards and exchange them with what’s already on the wall. Fun idea!

Get an inside look at the fashion industry at the Loussac Fashion Double Feature Saturday, August 23 starting at noon. They’ll be showing two films set in the world of fashion – come watch the world of runways, models, and photo shoots!

All films are free and open to the public.

Film 1 – 12pm – A documentary chronicling Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s preparations for the 2007 fall-fashion issue. (2009, PG-13)

Film 2 – 2:30pm – A naive young woman comes to New York and scores a job as the assistant to one of the city’s biggest magazine editors, the ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly. (2006, Rated PG-13)

Ever dreamed of being on stage? Alaska Theatre Of Youth is having open auditions for “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” and “The Three Musketeers” August 24 and 25 at their rehearsal space at 610 W. Fireweed Lane.

Auditioners should prepare a short song to be performed without accompaniment. All auditioners are encouraged to memorize a short monologue/passage from any play to recite from memory (30-60 seconds max). A passage to read aloud will be provided for those without a prepared piece.

Celebrate the grand opening of the Alaska Airlines Center at UAA with Howlapalooza, Sunday, September 14 from 1-11 p.m.

Ten hours of fun! Two stages, DJ booth, arts and craft vendors, food carts, entertainment and activities for the whole family.

This event is FREE until 7 p.m. then it is a $10 admission fee.

Have a knack for flower arranging? Join Green Connection Thursday, August 7 at 10 a.m. for Ugly Silk Plant Day! They have a large inventory of old and ugly silk flowers that need to be transformed. Come make a silk flower arrangement out of old inventory. You get to keep your creation and prizes will be given for the best designs. They will also offer mini-classes and instruction on silk flower arranging and the many uses of artificial plants.

This event is FREE to the public, and all silk plants and materials are also free when used during the event.

Learn how to draw fashion designs sharply and quickly Friday, August 8 at noon at the Loussac Library. The instructor will demonstrate methods using pencil, wash, and charcoal. Participants will discuss fashion throughout history and how society has influenced how we dress, in the work-place and socially.

Learn how to create an art journal Saturday, August 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Loussac Library Innovation Lab. Art journals are illustrated diaries or journals on any theme. Art journalists and papercrafters bring their projects to the innovation lab for a fun,creative,morning. All skill levels are welcome. Bring your own supplies.
