Every Word. Every Line. Every Poet. Every Time! Brave New Alaskan Voices E.W.E.L.E.P.E.T. SLAM is coming to Anchorage City Limits Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
A Poetry SLAM is a performance/contest in which poets put their original works on display in a competitive venue. There are three rounds. Poems are scored on a 0-10 scale by a panel of five judges.
Winners will qualify to travel with BNAV to Quarterfinals in March.

Head to the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center this Saturday and Sunday as Alaska Native youth assist visitors and answer questions in the exhibition “Dena’inaq’ Huch’ulyeshi: The Dena’ina Way of Living,” the first major exhibition about the Dena’ina Athabascan people. This program is a collaboration with the Alaska Native Heritage Center and provides opportunities for youth to learn about and embrace cultural traditions and values.

Alaska Theatre of Youth is holding auditions for “Anne of Green Gables” and “The Magical Adventures of Merlin” Sunday, Jan 5 from 3-5:30 p.m. and Monday, Jan 6 from 6-8:30 p.m. at their rehearsal hall at 610 W. Fireweed Lane.
Prepare a short song to be performed unaccompanied and be ready to move and do cold reads from the scripts. Auditioners are encouraged to memorize a short monologue, poem, nursery rhyme or joke.

Young Emerging Artists, Inc. is sponsoring the Alaska Region of this year’s Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Students in grades 7-12 can apply in 28 categories of art and writing for their chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited or published. Students can earn scholarships from $250 a semester to full college tuition!
Submit anything creative from jewelry to video game design to sculpture. Submissions are judged on originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal vision or voice.
