The Grammy award-winning East High School Music Department presents its Fall Pops concert Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Come hear the same department that boasts a last year’s American Idol finalist and dozens of incredibly talented vocalists and instrumentalists. Head to the University Center Saturday, Oct. 19, for Archaeology Day from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. You can try to shoot a model bison using a spear throwing board (atlatl), learn about the human skeleton, find artifacts in a mock dig, make stone artwork or petroglyphs, learn how old a cabin is from its logs, how to make a basket, about animal bones from archaeological sites, and how to make a stone knife or arrowhead. An archaeologist will be there to identify artifacts, and there will be movies and displays about archaeology in Alaska.
This event is FREE and open to the public.
Ever wonder how movie magic is made? Stunt Scientist Steve Wolf reveals the secret science behind movie stunts and effects Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. at the East High School Auditorium. This is a FREE community presentation in conjunction with the Alaska Math and Science Teachers Conference.
Alaska girls age 9-19, here’s your chance to ski with some awesome women!
Come spend the afternoon with the Olympians Kikkan Randall and Holly Brooks, members of the US Ski Team and the APU Nordic Ski Team, and many other inspirational Alaska female athletes Saturday, Oct. 26 from noon-3 p.m. at East High School.
There will be multi-sport activity stations, group fitness, healthy snacks, inspirational stories, and an autograph session. Meet new friends, learn new skills and have an AWESOME time celebrating the fact that strong, happy girls are successful girls! No previous ski skills necessary.
